POWER AUTHORITY TRUSTEES APPROVE RESALE OF CANADIAN HYDROPOWER

MASSENA, N.Y., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- New York Power Authority trustees today approved proposed contracts with Con Edison and Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. (RG&E) that will continue the flow of economical Canadian hydropower to consumers in New York during the months of peak use.

Con Edison will buy 780,000 kilowatts (kw) of firm power, while RG&E will receive 20,000 kw under 20-year contracts that take effect April 1, 1999, and expire Oct. 31, 2018. They will replace existing contracts -- for the same amounts of power -- that expire Oct. 31, ...
