For the past decade, scores of national companies have donated their services and traveled to Texas for the annual Austin Festival of Dance, a local rite of spring that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for AIDS Services of Austin. The event's popularity has even inspired similar festivals in other cities. But Charles Santos, creator of Austin's event and a Texas native, celebrated his tenth year as its producer/artistic director by announcing his resignation. Ironically, it's the success of the festival that's drawn Santos away from Austin's dance scene.
