For a Minneapolis band, Iffy did it backward.
After a mere five gigs, the band began recording for a major label. For its debut album, the hyper-prolific group had 47 original songs to choose from but fewer than two-dozen live performances to its credit.
"We're not old road dogs," said lead singer Kirk Johnson, whose group will celebrate tonight with a show at First Avenue.
Not only is Iffy defying the conventional wisdom about Twin Cities bands taking it to the clubs first, but the trio might be the freshest local studio creation to come along since Lipps, Inc. did "Funkytown" two decades ago.
