The National Park Service has recommended that the former Eaker Air Force Base in Blytheville be turned into a $15.6 million national park.
The area contains historic and scientific items, including approximately 85 acres of remains dating back to A.D. 700, said Rep. Marion Berry, D Ark., in a letter to President Bush.
The park would include a museum and visitor center, research center and curatorial center. The goal of the park would be to interpret the Mississippian culture of the lower Mississippi Delta region.
