Deion Sanders reportedly is near a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, opening a slim, and perhaps final, window to revive his flagging baseball career.
Once signed, Sanders will be given the chance to prove himself at Class AAA Syracuse. If he does not play well enough for a promotion to the major leagues, he would be contractually obligated to report for training camp with the Washington Redskins on July 29.
After a torrid start to the baseball season at Class AAA Louisville, Sanders hit just .173 in 32 games for the Cincinnati Reds. He was designated for assignment June 15, and on Friday the Reds, unable to trade Sanders, released him.
