ONCE you've had a pond for several years all sorts of wildlife start moving in - and not just frogs and newts. A lot of people get quite worried at some of the weirder creatures they find, but they are part of the ecosystem in a healthy pond. So unless things get really out of hand, I wouldn't worry about them. They are often doing a good job and saving you a mucky one.
Leeches look really horrid. Remember that scene in The African Queen where Humphrey Bogart gets out of the water covered in them?
Ugghh.
The ones that live here are usually much smaller, more like long, thin black or reddish brown slugs, but ...
