Laptops are not only hot on the legitimate sales market-they are also hot on the black market. Laptop theft is on the rise. According to a report by the insurance agency, Safeware, Columbus, Ohio, 387,000 laptops were stolen in 2000, and that is up from 319,000 stolen in 1999 and 303,000 laptops stolen in 1998.
