GOLDEN, Colo. _ Physically attached to the west end of Denver, the foothills town of Golden feels nothing like the big city on the plains just east of it.
It's a college town, home to the Colorado School of Mines, but doesn't feel like its trendy northern neighbor, Boulder, either.
What it feels like is a small town, albeit a growing one, nestled in a valley between two major landmarks _ Lookout and Table mountains _ trapped in an earlier, simpler time.
A giant wooden arch over the main street offers a warm Western "Howdy Folks: Welcome to Golden."
