Most existing applied research on self-regulated learning has identified ways teachers can improve or promote self-regulated learning" (Corno, 1995, p. 201), and most do so through activities that support one or more self-regulatory skills. This article suggests guidelines for selecting specific activities that structure and promote self-regulation based upon documented self-regulation deficiencies or needs. Faculty who use the guidelines to select compensatory self-regulation teaching activities may be able to match their instruction to developmental student needs.
