2001 JUN 14 -- (NewsRx Network) -- Contrary to a long-standing belief in the obstetric community, labor induction alone does not lead to excess cesarean deliveries in women with prolonged pregnancies, according to a study in the June 2001 issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Circumstances and risk factors intrinsic to the patient are the causes of increased cesarean deliveries in such women, the study's authors say.

Researchers reviewed records of 1,325 women with pregnancies at 41 weeks gestation and in whom the only complication was prolonged pregnancy. Of these women, 687 (52%) ...
