By no means is this book a definitive work on the history of Honda Gold Wings--its skimpy 70 pages guarantee that. What author Darwin Holmstrom has done with Honda Gold Wing, though, is con dense the last 25 years of Wing existence and put it into an enjoyable afternoon's read, complete with lots of nice photos.
Half of the book is devoted to the original 1,000cc flat-four of 1975, its development and how "Project 371" (the internal factory code) came to be in the first place. Everyone-myself included--scratched their heads at the debut of the GL1000 and thought, "Uh, brilliant but who's it meant for?" It certainly wasn't a sportbike, though it was powerful for ...
