Jun. 28--Two Tri-City electric utilities are asking their largest customers whether they'd be willing to be paid to shut down during times of peak power demand.
Though it's unknown whether there will be any takers, any such curtailment deals could help reduce rate increases for all customers of the Benton and Franklin county public utility districts.
But curtailed production also could mean lost jobs.
"We're sensitive to that," said Jim Sanders, Benton PUD manager, of the prospects for economic effects. "There might be some."
