He strained spaghetti through a tennis racket in "The Apartment," he tore apart a greenhouse searching for a bottle of booze in "Days of Wine and Roses," and he was Walter Matthau's better half in "The Odd Couple."
Such dramatic and comedic roles helped make Jack Lemmon, who died Wednesday night in Los Angeles of complications from cancer, one of the most versatile and best-loved actors of his generation.
The two-time Oscar winner was 76. His wife, actress Felicia Farr, was at his side, along with his two children and a stepdaughter.
