DuPont has devised a spun staple yarn for friction applications, according to US Patent 6 132 866.
A blend of 25-90% fluoropolymer fibre and 75-10% of one or more other fibres can be used as friction modifiers in load-bearing products such as fabric liners in rubbers, composites, and fabric bearing and sealing materials. To illustrate this, the yarn was used as a fabric in an automotive application involving a stabilizer bar bushing. Normally such bars are made from 100% polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) fibres knitted with polyester yarns such that the PTFE is on one face and the polyester on the reverse.
