The Belgian waste management group, Indaver, is seeking to construct Ireland's first commercial hazardous waste incinerator at Ringaskiddy in Cork Harbour. The proposed IUKP75 million ($84 million) incinerator is proposed for a 30-acre (12 ha) site which was bought by Indaver from the Irish steel maker, ISPAT. Indaver has submitted a planning application to Cork County Council.
In 1996, Ireland exported some 51,700 tonnes of hazardous waste and the volume is increasing.
