High cost of EU Directives in Romania.

According to the Romanian Ministry for Water and Environmental Protection (MAPM) the cost of implementing the European Union (EU) Landfill Directive in Romania could amount to EUR1,100 million ($972.6 million). A further EUR200 million may be needed to implement the EU's Waste Incineration Directive. The costs of implementing other EU environmental Directives are, as yet, unknown. During 2000, inter-ministerial groups were working on the transposition of the Landfill and Waste Incineration Directives into Romanian law, and an emergency decree was enacted to implement the Directive on Hazardous Waste and the Waste Framework Directive, reports Recycling und Entsorgung.
