Phillip Santangelo's first big fish story turned out to be a big shark story.
Fishing with his father just after daybreak on South Cape Beach in Mashpee on Sunday, the 14-year-old Barnstable High School student felt a strike and watched his 15-foot surf casting pole pulled into the shape of a horseshoe.
"Whatever it was, I thought it was going to either pull me into the water or it was going to rip the line and get away," said Santangelo, of Marstons Mills.
But the 20-pound test line - which he'd baited with a porgy - held as Phillip waited the beast out in a 45-minute battle of teen against the sea creature - which turned out to be a ...
