ANGELS CAMP, Calif. _ The rope snakes downward along the side of a rock wall before angling toward a hole, where it goes over the edge and drops out of sight into the depths of the cave.The hole doesn't have teeth but has an intimidating bite.
Harnessed to the rope, you ease down hand-over-fist. You walk backward down the wall, level out, then clumsily angle your body over the ledge of that hole and start descending - straight down.
You keep walking down a rock wall until it disappears and you are suspended in midair, descending like a spider, just not as graceful.
