Exxon Mobil, the Texas-based oil company, is at the No. 1 spot on the 2001 FORTUNE Global 500, the magazine's annual list of the world's largest corporations. Exxon Mobil displaces General Motors, which held the top position for the past four years, and which moves to No. 3 on this year's list. Wal-Mart holds the No. 2 spot, with Ford Motor Company coming in at No. 4 and DaimlerChrysler at No. 5; all three companies maintained the same position on this year's list that they held last year.
