Norilsk Nickel is one of the world's largest metals producers. It is a key element in the global platinum group metals (PGM) markets, accounting for some 50% of the world's palladium output and around 20% of the world's platinum production. It is also a major force in the nickel market, accounting for over 15% of global production. A paper, `Noril'sk Nickel and Russian Platinum-Group Metals Production', published recently in Post-Soviet Geography and Economics(*) suggests that its dominance is set to continue.
