SOME theories spell trouble however carefully they are worded. Anything about the brains, or genes, of a controversial group of people means double trouble. So it is hardly surprising that Dutch newspapers seized on the work of Dr Richard Swaab and his colleagues at the Netherlands Institute for Brain Research in Amsterdam, prompting him to announce his results before publishing them in a scientific journal. He claims to have found that the brains of homosexual men are different from the brains of heterosexual men. And he thinks the differences arise in early childhood.
