Jul. 8--Banks have long lured credit card customers by offering frequent flier miles, cash-back plans and other goodies as incentives for charging purchases on their plastic.
After all, a credit card purchase runs up a debt, and if the customer doesn't pay off the full amount each month, interest charges typically kick in. That generates plenty of money to pay for incentive programs.
But now banks are starting to offer incentives for customers to use debit cards, those plastic rectangles that look like credit cards but instead withdraw money directly from bank ...
