MILWAUKEE -- It's strawberry season, and that means it's time to drag my old Settlement Cookbook down off the shelf.
It opens right to the recipe for Schaum torte, the crunchy puff of meringue you fill with fresh berries and softened ice cream. Actually, that's a lie. I can easily find the Schaum torte recipe because that's exactly where the book doesn't open.
