[] Mexico City--Goodyear shut down its only tyre plant in Mexico last month, but the unionised work force that staffed the facility wants the company to change its mind.
On April 6, the Akron tyre maker announced it was closing its Tultitlan facility--Compania Hulera Goodyear Oxo SA de CV--located outside Mexico City because of high costs. The company said it explored other options but none were feasible.
As a result, more than 1550 workers lost their jobs. Goodyear said it is seeking work for as many employees as possible at its other two Mexican facilities, which make non-tyre products.
