SUMMER IS A critical time for most landscape plants. Louisiana State University representatives make these suggestions: Water trees and shrubs thoroughly once a week when rainfall is not sufficient. Mulching conserves soil moisture, so mulch your plants. Check shrubs and trees weekly for disease and insect problems. Limit fertilization in June, July and August. (This means do not use Miracle Gro or other water-soluble products during the hot weather months.) Spring fertilization for shrubs should be completed in April and May. Trees should be fertilized in winter.
