Lockheed Martin [LMT] and the Air Force on July 9 closed a $47 million deal for the next comprehensive upgrade to the company's family of FPS-117 fixed-site early warning radar systems, according to a company official.
Under the latest upgrade plan, Lockheed Martin will install radar interrogator sub systems at the Air Force's FPS-117 sites. The new beacon subsystem communicates with the transponders on military and civil aircraft to provide detailed information, used for air traffic management, according to the statement.
