There was not much drama over the identity of the All-Star Game MVP after the third inning of Tuesday night's contest in Safeco Field.
Cal Ripken, 40 and playing in his final All-Star Game, homered on the first pitch he saw from Chan Ho Park. It was the game's first run. As long as the American League protected that lead, the MVP trophy was going to wind up in Ripken's possession.
Ripken's teammates cooperated, cruising to a 4-1 victory. It was the American League's fifth consecutive victory and its 11th in the past 14 games.
