Jul. 13--ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--New Mexico on Thursday became the first of 18 states suing Microsoft in a historic antitrust action to settle with the software giant. The deal could pave the way for more agreements.
Attorney General Patricia Madrid said she decided to settle with Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft because the case may become too costly for New Mexico and because the state's goals in joining the lawsuit have already been met.
"If the states are going to move forward (with the suit) against Microsoft the process could be dragged out for a number of years," ...
