RICH New Yorkers, Texan millionaires, ambassadors, merchant bankers, actors and pop stars think nothing of getting on a plane to visit Mr James of the Ritz for a proper gentleman's haircut. Mr James has been the Ritz barber for 21 years. His tiny salon tucked away on the seventh floor has a view of Green Park and, on a good day, Buckingham Palace.
With its polished wood furniture, black leather chairs, signed photographs from loyal clients, immaculately folded towels and shelves stocked with lotions, potions, pomades and eaux de toilette all made by Mr James, it is like the set of a black and white film.
