Dr. William Sheehan sees a lot of similarities between astronomy and his work as a psychiatrist in Willmar, Minn.
"They aren't as far removed from each other as they might seem," he says. Both involve efforts on the part of people to make sense of their place in the universe, he says. Even on a scientific level, the technologies of brain imaging are similar to those employed in astrophysics, he says.
