SPRINGFIELD - The first of what will be 8.5 million sets of new state license plates are now on the streets.
Secretary of State Jesse White, whose office is in charge of license plates, said Wednesday the first set was sold in Champaign and that more than 640,000 renewal notices had been mailed statewide to the first batch of people eligible for the new license plates.
"With that mailing, we are finalizing the process of replacing old, worn-out license plates on Illinois vehicles with newly designed plates that were chosen by the citizens of Illinois," White said during a Capitol news ...
