Jul. 14--Pittsburgh International Airport could be headed for its busiest year ever, thanks in no small part to the emergence of discount carrier AirTran.
Through May, total passenger volume -- those boarding or getting off airplanes -- had increased 7.4 percent over last year. The 8.26 million people using the airport were the second-most ever for the time period, according to the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
The authority said preliminary figures indicated that last month would be the busiest June in airport history.
