Fredericton--On August 22, 1999, the English provincial school board in New Brunswick defeated a motion to overhaul the high school sex education program 8-2. The program is referred to in several articles in the province's papers as "largely mechanics-oriented," the "physics and chemistry" side taking precedence over relational education and mature decision-making training. The program is ten years old.
The New Brunswick Telegraph Journal and Moncton Times Transcript ran articles and editorials that advocated more content in the area of abstinence, family values, better emotional support for teens, etc.
