NEW YORK -- The book is finally out, but it wasn't really worth the ink.
Potential bidders who have seen the book describing Brooks. Bros.' business have expressed almost unanimous disappointment in its content, with the most common complaint being it was a bit thin on details. All of them have signed confidentiality agreements, and therefore could not be identified in this article.
Although Brooks Bros. officially has been on the block since March, it took Marks & Spencer and its advisers, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, until mid-June to issue the offering memorandum on the New York-based specialty-store chain.
