NEW YORK -- For Michael Kors, red is as neutral a color as camel, gray or black, but the difference, he said, is how it plays in the vocabulary.
Take for instance, the Michael Kors collection store that opened on Madison Avenue last fall, which is bathed in camel right down to the matte paper shopping bags.
In his new Kors store, which opens today in SoHo for the bridge customer, the focus is on red. He had the polyurethane floors painted 17 times just to get the right shade, a glossy pool of rouge just shy of a glass of blood orange juice that he calls "lacquer red." In his words, it's "Judy Jetson meets the Museum of Modern Art."
