Jul. 15--After a string of layoffs that have chopped away one-fifth of its Cedar Rapids work force, Square D Co. isn't promising that more jobs won't be lost.
But Square D officials will say the layoffs aren't part of a plan to eliminate production in Cedar Rapids, one of many rumors that have spread as worries spread through the work force.
Square D spokesman Martin Hanna said part of what Cedar Rapids is seeing is the fallout from a ramp-up in production for orders that never came, or fell through as the dot-com boom went bust last year.
