The first to go was Learningsmith during Christmas 1999. Next to fold was the Store of Knowledge. And just recently, Zany Brainy filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
The plight of these educational specialty stores highlights the slump in the children's educational software sector, which has seen the number of games published each year decline.
The latest shake-up to hit the market: 40 percent of employees at Humongous Entertainment, one of the pioneers of educational children's software, lost their jobs last month.
