SAN ANTONIO, Texas _ Inside the stone walls of the Quadrangle, where the soldiers of yesteryear watered their horses after dusty patrols toward Mexico, the clock in the 125-year-old tower still measures time.
The wars with the Indians and Mexicans have faded, but Fort Sam Houston, a 3,100-acre post just a mile from downtown San Antonio, endures.
One of about three dozen national historic landmarks in Texas, Fort Sam has the largest collection of historic structures in the Department of Defense _ more than 700, half of all the structures on the base.
