A study to look at the effects of long-term weight loss in people with type 2 diabetes was announced at the annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association on June 25, 2001.
Funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), it is the largest study on the effects of weight-loss interventions ever funded by the NIH. Named Look AHEAD (Action for HEAlth in Diabetes), the multicenter, randomized clinical trial will examine the effects of a lifestyle intervention program in approximately 5,000 volunteers.
