SAN JOSE, Calif. _ You could walk right past the little tree in the big pot on the hot summer sidewalk.
Most people do. There is so much in the competing bustle of downtown San Jose _ traffic; the sadly befuddled; the storefronts offering lingerie, lottery tickets and light beer.
But Jack Licursi notices. The tree is his baby, his shrub anyway, and for him it is packed with meaning, starting with the small apricots on its branches.
Licursi is one in a long line of barbers. His family's business has been planted at its East Santa Clara Street location since 1926. The place with the fruit tree out front.
