Jul. 21--ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: The city of Tucson Office of Economic Development posted a solid year helping Tucson companies get state work force training grants. The city received 45 percent of the state money available for training under the program, though it has only 18 percent of the state's population. The Arizona Job Training Grant Program provided $3.5 million in training money to Tucson firms in the 2000-01 year. Businesses spent $3 million more for worker training.
