MANILA, July 25 Asia Pulse - The Philippines Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has been mandated to increase its collection target for this year by shifting from net to gross taxation as a way to help the small and medium income earners cope with the rising costs of commodities.

This was revealed by BIR Commissioner Rene Banez after he told media that the BIR is just waiting for the green light from the Department of Finance (DOF) to implement the plan.

But, he admitted that the proposal will have to be approved first as part of the modification in the National Internal Revenue Code and the Tax Reform Act of 1997.
