MOUNT Etna was yesterday sending huge plumes of black smoke blasting into space.
This spectacular image was captured by a NASA satellite orbiting the Earth at a distance of 440 miles.
The stunning picture belies the devastation caused on the ground by Europe's highest and most active volcano, which has been pouring out rivers of lava at temperatures of more than 1000C for a week .
