Consumers looking for back-to- school bargains should mark August 3-5 on their calendars as Texas has its sales tax holiday on those days. According to the International Mass Retail Association, the average American plans to spend $315 on back-to-school items and will purchase these items during the first two weeks in August.
"For some, the temptation to spend will be greater this year with the sales tax holiday and a possible tax rebate check soon after," says Marianne Gray, president of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Fort Worth. "Yet, people still need to plan their purchases and avoid overspending."
