WINNIPEG, MB, July 26, 2001 (RESNEWS) - Imports of US corn into drought-stricken southern Alberta may reach 100,000 metric tons a month as a result of high feed barley prices due to tight supplies, say analysts.
Not only is southern Alberta a significant barley producing region in Canada, but it also a major cattle production area.
Some trade sources on the floor of the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange (WCE) said between 80,000 to 100,000 tons of US corn have been booked, with another 100,000 tons of corn expected to be purchased.
