When students walk through the doors at Garfield Elementary School on Wednesday morning, they will not have to worry about the mold contamination that plagued their school last year, officials say.
Instead, they will see new ceiling tiles, flooring, paint and plastering throughout the school.
Since finding the mold, Elgin Area School District U-46 crews and mold experts have cleaned it up. And this summer, they began fixing the water leakage problems that caused the mold in the first place.
