Ending a two-week trial that heard testimony from several occupational health experts, a Texas jury decided Baxter Healthcare Corp. was negligent in manufacturing latex gloves that caused dermatitis on both hands of a laboratory worker.
The Jefferson County jury said Nancy Goolsby, an employee of Helena Laboratories, Beaumont, TX, should be awarded $5 million in punitive damages and $75,000 in actual damages.
Goolsby, 53, started working for Helena in 1988 and allegedly began suffering in 1992 from dermatitis with a potential for swelling of the bronchial tubes, which can reduce air supply, according to court records. Helena Labs is a maker of diagnostic ...
