The St Etienne region includes five companies that are European leaders in manufacture of medical restraint products, such as bands, stockings and knee supports made from knitted or woven elastic materials.
Thuasne dominates this market for narrow fabrics with ranges of medical and paramedical stockings and restraining bands in the areas of orthopaedics and venous insufficiency. Recently, the company redeveloped its weaving and knitting techniques to offer its Veinoflex Elegance range of tights and stockings, which uses Lycra and is now available in expandable microfibres.
