This beautiful suites, of rough, cut, and mounted blue topaz is courtesy of Pala International, Fallbrook, Calif. All three gems were uncovered in Virgem da Lapa, Minas Gerais, Brazil, famous for its topaz deposits. They now reside in the Harvard Mineralogical Museum, via donation in the late 1970s. The rough crystal stands 17 cm high, weighs approximately 18,000 cts., and exhibits its natural color. The large, faceted cushion-shape weighs approximately 3,800 cts., and was pre-formed by Josh Hall at Pala. Bill Larson, president of Pala, acquired the rough for this faceted stone (also natural color) through an exchange with the British Museum of Natural History. The pendam ...
