No one is talking about Daunte Culpepper this summer. There is no national debate analyzing his coach's sanity. Fans no longer are crossing their fingers, and teammates are not simply hoping for the best.
That sweet silence is perhaps the greatest compliment of a busy offseason for the Vikings' young quarterback, whose breakout season in 2000 cemented the position for the next decade. The dust has long settled on the cacophony surrounding him in Mankato, Minn., a year ago, and Culpepper will report to training camp today knowing there is only one new challenge to face.
